The film opens with a montage of the previous film, as Steven Rogers and the howling commandos fight against HYDRA after he becomes Captain America, the first and only super soldier in the world. Steven Rogers writes a letter to his love Peggy Carter on the back of a postcard. "I'm sorry I had to leave, but me and these guys are going to take down HYDRA for good! I promise I'll be back, and everything will be like it was before. All my love, Steve." He looks up as Bucky entered the cave they were scouting from. He informs them that the HYDRA tank was passing over now, so he puts the postcard in his bag, picks up his shield and mobilises.
