| - Chancellor Gaumen was a representative of the B'omar Sovereignty. He led the negotiations with the crew of the USS Voyager to discuss passage through B'omar space in 2374. The B'omar were very xenophobic, and councilor Dumah laid down many restrictions on Voyager – they could not exceed warp 3, they had to avoid the planets and colonies of the B'omar, and they had to stop for seventeen inspections. When Seven of Nine believed to be called back by the Borg Collective and took a shuttlecraft, Gaumen questioned Captain Kathryn Janeway's command abilities and the B'omar withdrew their permission for the Voyager entering their space. (VOY: "The Raven") Gaumen was played by actor Richard J. Zobel, Jr. who filmed his scenes on Monday 21 July 1997 on Paramount Stage 8. His costume was later sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay and, according to the costume tag, was also worn partially by Dumah actor Mickey Cottrell. [1] Gaumen was named by Bryan Fuller who selected the name randomly from a German dictionary; gaumen is the German word for palate. (Information from Larry Nemecek) His name was spelled "Gauman" in the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 300) .
