He was subsequently traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he played in their farm system. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft, but opted to join the Los Angeles Sharks of the World Hockey Association.

He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft, but opted to join the Los Angeles Sharks of the World Hockey Association. Crashley joined the Kansas City Scouts in 1974 for their first NHL season, wearing #4. He then returned to Detroit via a trade half-way through that season where he again wore #4. In 1975 he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings along with Marcel Dionne. He did not make it there and left in 1978 after playing in the minor pros. Crashley then played until 1985 in Austria, mostly with HC TWK Innsbruck. He was assistant coach of the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League in 1998–99.He was coach of the Couchiching Terriers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League in 2007–2008.
