They cuss, drink, make out, have sex or try to. There is very little whitewashing done of the teenaged experience and the book becomes a much more satisfying read due to the realism of the portrayal. While still kept within a PG-13 definition of edgy, the works have gained a substantial adult following in addition to their intended audience.
