It traditionally was given to a Klingon daughter when she became old enough to select a mate. A jinaq was among the Klingon items Carraya IV resident Gi'ral had forbidden her daughter Ba'el from viewing. (TNG: "Birthright, Part II" ) According to the script, jinaq was pronounced as "jin-AWK". [1]
