A woman can get pregnant if sperm is present during ovulation when eggs are released. Sperm can live up to 3 days in the female reproductive system. So pregnancy is possible in this time period before and during ovulation. Menstruation, otherwise known as a period, will cease during the course of pregnancy. This is what is called amenorrhoea.
