abstract
| - Months before, Haveer Jarn had deserted from the Necasian Military after uncovering information that betrayed the treachery of Necasian leader Askar Invado earlier in the war, which helped him get to power. A while afterward, Jarn had headed to Boz Pity, acting on information that Askar was there, but this turned out to be a trap and he was captured. Now imprisoned aboard the Fire Queen, the personal ship of Emela Makakson, Jarn was now being subjected to physical, sexual and mental torture by Makakson, and was despondent. Nevertheless, passing nearby was a Tantor-class battle cruiser of the United Coalition of Worlds, also investigating the intelligence leaked by Askar, with former Srav Federation heroine Nataska Vergulva aboard.
