Rovers finally ended a run of seven games without a victory when they beat Shrewsbury Town 1–0 in this League Two fixture. That win-less run did however see Rovers progress to the second round of the League Cup after a drawn game with Watford saw them move on after winning the resultant penalty shoot-out. The Shrews side included two former Rovers players in Joe Jacobson, who left Rovers in 2009, and Mark Wright, who was a more recent departure, officially joining Shrewsbury just eight months prior to the game, although he had also spent much of the previous season on loan with them.

abstract
| - Rovers finally ended a run of seven games without a victory when they beat Shrewsbury Town 1–0 in this League Two fixture. A 19th-minute Chris Zebroski goal proved to be the difference between the two sides, earning Rovers the three points and moving them up to 12th place in the League Two standings. Two Gas players were forced to leave the game through injury, Lee Brown and captain Matt Gill both picked up knocks in the first half.
