| - The 2009 NBA Draft was held on June 25, 2009 at the Washington Mutual Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. In this draft, National Basketball Association (NBA) teams took turns selecting amateur college basketball players and other first-time eligible players, such as players from non-North American leagues. The draft was broadcast on ESPN at 7:00 PM (EDT). The NBA announced that 100 players, including 74 players from U.S. colleges and institutions and 26 international players, have filed as early entry candidates for the 2009 NBA Draft. The Los Angeles Clippers, who had obtaining the first selection, won the NBA Draft Lottery on May 22. The New Jersey Nets and the Oklahoma City Thunder were second and third respectively. The Los Angeles Clippers used the first overall pick to draft Blake Griffin, a sophomore from the University of Oklahoma. The New Jersey Nets used the second pick to draft Terrence Williams, a senior from University of Louisville, and the Oklahoma City Thunder used the third pick to draft James Harden, a sophomore from Arizona State University.
