| - Jewel is one of Ash’s traveling companions in Meito. They met in Redgrass Town by Professor Evergreen’s lab in Meito Mania. Jewel was mourning her new Cuboil, which she had chosen using the following logic: “If you were hit with some leaves or some water, it would not hurt as much as if you were burning, so isn‘t a Fire-type the best?” Pikachu mistook Jewel as a Team Rocket member because of her outfit and scent, shocking her and her scooter. Jewel explained how she had been lured onto Team Rocket by Jessie, James, and Meowth. She performed labor for them, thinking they were Pokemon scientists. It wasn’t until they stole her Cuboil that she realized they were evil. She chewed them out, so Jessie and James sent out Arbok and Weezing against her. She ran back home to Redgrass, upset over losing her new friend. Ash agreed to help her get her Cuboil back. When they found Team Rocket, Ash battled them for Jewel’s Cuboil. Winning and sending them “blasting off,” Jewel reclaimed her Cuboil and thanked Ash. Because he seemed to know a lot about Pokemon, Jewel joined Ash on his journey. Jewel is somewhat chatty and high-strung, annoying Ash sometimes, and occasionally even her own Pokemon. She has little dignity and will do anything she can if it is safe and morally correct. She never wants to hurt a Pokemon outside of battle, and even feels guilty when battling small Pokemon like Lilicky. She originally believed Fire-types were the best until she lost to Misty‘s Corsola with Cuboil. After that, she learned how to compose her team of various types. She still, however, favored her Cuboil out of them all because of its awesome strength. Her pet peeve was its inability to evolve. However, in The Sizzelion King!, it evolved to try to equal the strength of its childhood rival, Alexi's Kingrill. Jewel cared for Sizzelion almost as much as Ash cares for Pikachu. She has nurtured it in its sickness and only puts it in its Poke Ball in a rainstorm or other type of danger. Jewel believed Sizzelion was not only strong, but a brave and loyal companion. Sizzelion cared for Jewel more than any other of her Pokemon, but when they first met, it was confused and a little mischievous. Jewel eventually left Sizzelion with Brock when she went to join Team Rocket. After she quit, when Ash left Meito, he returned it as an evolved Kingrill. Jewel was amazed and touched. She kept Kingrill, but neglected to train it after it maxed out its levels. Afterwards, she went to Johto and focused on training her new Feraligatr. Jewel has an obsession with keeping herself and her Pokemon clean, leading to her fear of Poison Pokemon. In Bacterm Goes Viral, she tried her best to keep Sizzelion and Sparkle safe from Bacterm Fever. Although she failed at keeping Sizzelion healthy, she did keep Sparkle healthy by giving her a mask to wear and hiding it from any other Pokemon. Her fear may also be connected to her fear of Team Rocket, who use Poison Pokemon often. She has stated her least two favorite Pokemon are Muk and Bacterus. However, she is okay with Bug Pokemon, unlike Misty (unless they are part Poison type) and Poison types with no poison, such as a baby Ekans. She has even teased Misty about her fear of Bug types. Jewel is involved in two shippings: DisguiseShipping and OrangeShipping. The first involves her and James being a couple, supported by their secret relationship in Love is Blind. Although they were in disguise that time as Julia and Jeremy, they have exhibited what could be viewed as awkward or flirtatious behavior, especially after Jewel joins Team Rocket as Juliette. Orange-Shipping is the consideration of a relationship between Jewel and Ash. Like with most of Ash’s traveling companions, Jewel does occasionally show flirty, shy, or even jealous behavior (I.e.: relationship with Misty in Something‘s a Misty) regarding him. Jewel’s mother has a stable relationship with her, but has a loose understanding of Pokemon training. Because of this, Jewel has argued with her mother over caring for Sizzelion and other Pokemon. Her mother does like Ash, however, and feels he may be a good influence on her because of his perseverance, something of which Jewel has little. This makes Jewel embarrassed. Jewel is both a Trainer and a Coordinator. She tries to enter Contests whenever she can, and usually does well in basic courses. She usually enrolled Sparkoka or Sizzelion because of their cuteness and strength. She has, so far, earned nine ribbons. In Johto, however, she has become a natural Pokeathelete.
