"Nothing in the Nighttime" is a science fiction short story written by Harry Turtledove. It was originally published in Analog Magazine in March, 1989 and later incorporated into Earthgrip as the section entitled "The Atheters". The story is of a trading mission to an alien planet by Jennifer Logan, a professor of literature who specialized in science fiction of the twentieth century. The story is little more than an extended "shaggy dog" story with an atrocious pun ending.
