  • Morths are enemies from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. They are small, round beasts, with a single multicolored eye in the middle of their black bodies and are covered with orange spikes, which are used to attach to Link. They are most often found in forested areas and are sometimes spawned by Mothulas. Their first appearance is in the Forbidden Woods. Morths cannot actually harm Link. They attack by leaping at him and latching onto his body, making it difficult for him to move or jump by weighing him down. Morths copy the movement of Goriyas from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as Morths will move when Link walks or rolls. The more Morths that are attached to Link, the heavier and slower he becomes — this occurs when five Morths have latched onto him. When slowed down, Link is more susceptible to being hit by enemy attacks, and his dexterity is severely weakened. His parry attack will also be less effective when he is in this state, having less range and being executed more clumsily. Morths are extremely weak creatures that can be defeated by a single blow from most of Link's weapons. When they latch onto Link, he can simply shake them off by rolling or using a Spin Attack, which will usually defeat most Morths attached to Link. Another weakness of Morths is that, because of their light weight, they can be blasted away easily with the Deku Leaf. However, Morths do have one defensive ability which many other enemies do not: they can float on top of water rather than drowning as many other monsters do.
