Burgerspace is a clone of the classic Atari game, Burgertime. As in the original game, the goal is to walk over the ingredients, causing each to fall to the bottom, where a completed burger is assembled. The player must simultaneously avoid contact with the enemies, in the form of lettuce, onion, and sausage. Dropping an ingredient on an enemy takes it out of play for a time. Dropping an enemy while it is walking across an ingredient drops it by more than one space, and takes the enemy out of play.

Players are armed with a limited number of peppers, which can be thrown at an enemy, which stuns them for a few seconds. The goal is to fully form all of the hamburgers at the bottom of the screen. When this occurs, the player progresses to the next level. There are five different screens, after which (level 6) the screens are repeated.
