Prior to the battle, the Vacoren Alliance, a large criminal organization capitalizing on the recent conflicts, was attempting to set up rackets on Vanqor, but the militia there were preventing them from doing so. Having been impressed of the previous performance of The Flyboys mercenary squadron, they contacted the Flyboys anonymously via a communications network, offering them a large payment if they could eliminate the Vanqor militia. To this end, they offered to supply them with a small number of tactical nuclear weapons they had stolen from the Srav Federation to assist in the job. Prete Maverik, leader of the squadron, accepted the job. Following this, the nuclear weapons were delivered and the Flyboys set out for Vanqor.
