ShortSummary
  • The ambiance at Sunshine Academy becomes even more vivacious than usual when summer vacation makes its advent; unfortunately for Shunsuke, a turbulent adventure is never far away even though he has begun to get the hang of the school's social mechanics. Figuring that it would be a surefire way to peace and quiet during the summer, Shunsuke agrees to watch over the dormitory in spite of having to take responsibility for Nitaro. Even with Nitaro voraciously eating his dinner content that his Deliver it and leave!!! declaration has been heeded, Shunsuke finds his greatest challenge in Natsumi who thinks nothing of camping out in his room to keep him company in spite of the dystopian epilogue of being detected in the act; while attempting to vote with his feet, Sensei Kanekouji compels company of Shunsuke back to the dorm where Natsumi is playing with fireworks. Shunsuke and Natsumi ultimately discover that the ghost is a long standing friend of Dorm-master Komachi playing a prank; with that mystery solved, Shunsuke begins to think better of Natsumi as a paramour.
  • After the ghost-busting adventure in the Sunshine Academy dormitory, Shunsuke is only too glad to have peace and quiet as he spends his summer vacation in the dormitory after accompanying Natsumi to a summer festival -- the memento thereof a wind chime -- when Madoka comes into the room to eat watermelon with him; during the ensuing concourse, the subject of birthdays is broached upon along with Shunsuke not knowing Natsumi's birthday. Shunsuke is shocked to learn that he shares a birthday with Natsumi and that there are very few options for him to earn enough money to buy a 15 kilo-yen satchel that was pointed out to him aside from working for his mother in her lingerie shop; after a harsh reminder from Monta about the summer training camp, Shunsuke races off to the field where Monta picks up on him being distracted while Natsumi sets course for her mom's sweets shoppe where the commerce is almost nil. As has been previously demonstrated, Shunsuke is ultimately never far away from a misadventure whose genesis takes the form of a two kilo-yen encounter with Sensei Kanekouji and a speed eating contest where he makes excellent progress on his own but needs Monta's collaborative efforts with Tsuru and Kame to crest the mountain; if the dental caries and an upset stomach are not bad enough, Shunsuke is shocked to find that he and Natsumi having given each other the same satchel becomes the preamble for the community concourse around the school to be quite vivacious and colorful.
  • As if Natsumi carrying him into the girls' dormitory along with its associated hullabaloo making for a horrible first impression is not enough, Shunsuke finds that his home commute has been diverted right into the lair of the ill-tempered resident assistant Monta Akai who rules the boys' dormitory and the cheering squad with an iron fist. Even if he is dead on about Monta being brainless muscle, Shunsuke is shocked at how Natsumi has thought nothing to knitting him a custom-made necktie though the night so that he can comply the school rules; after being programmed with the data of how to properly wear it, a brief chase to the school's roof becomes the forum for Natsumi to demonstrate Shunsuke being a child at heart as she gazes upon a ship in the distant bay. The comical home commute that afternoon ultimately becomes the preamble for the tragic zenith of Shunsuke finding to his horror that repairing the feelings Natsumi has woven into his damaged necktie is of much greater difficulty than fighting Monta to a stalemate; Natsumi's illegal incursion into the boys' dormitory that night has the silver lining of demonstrating Natsumi's priorities and being the forum for Shunsuke to see her in a new light.
  • Natsumi's corporeal dimensions is only one of the many scary things at Sunshine Academy as Nitaro is shocked to have demonstrated when Madoka keeps too fast a walking pace for the poor canine prior to challenging Natsumi whose desire to eat a homemade box lunch alongside Shunsuke inadvertently causes a huge circus among the class at lunchtime in the form of an impromptu auction; while two kilo-yen easily resolves the whole hullabaloo, Shunsuke soon finds himself in yet another misadventure when he tries to get the abrasive tyrant Sensei Iron Rod Kanekouji to adjust his grade. If Monta inducting him onto the cheer team is not surprising enough, Shunsuke successfully erecting a hefty cheer flag ultimately becomes the ironic preamble for finding himself carried along with the wind right into a jousting match with Sensei Kanekouji's sports car; while Shunsuke is vastly underpowered as an individual, Sensei Kanekouji has it demonstrated how the student body can come together for the common good.
  • After Natsumi shows him up at his mom's lingerie shop and again at dinner during the home commute when he could not pay the bill yesterday, it is quite understandable that Shunsuke is none too thrilled about Natsumi loudly reminding his obligation to attend class the next morning; Shunsuke grumpily and loudly repulsing the wake-up call becomes the forum to once again face the wrath of Sensei Kanekouji for using a homework assignment as a tissue. Even as Natsumi lightens the tense ambiance, Shunsuke again tries to fish for testosterone during the home commute only to find that Nitaro has been fuming all day for an opportunity to take vengeance against him because of his abrasive conduct towards Natsumi. Monta's reminder to not forget tomorrow's cheer squad practice ultimately becomes the preamble of a misadventure that involves Nitaro chasing the panicked Shunsuke all over the school whose ironic silver lining is that Sensei Kanekouji is also found to fear dogs; as an added bonus, Shunsuke gets a no-cost exhibition of Natsumi's swimming prowess.
  • The assumption that Madoka is only for decoration in the dormitory is quickly dispelled when she abruptly leaves poor Nitaro in order to collect the laundry of the students for a price but is repelled from blowing the whistle on Natsumi taking to a laundry collection run of her own that hits the flustered Shunsuke a bit close to home; if that is not enough, Natsumi is conscripted into a crash course demonstrating the mechanics of the Aoba family when Shunsuke's mother calls the dorm with a dangerous opportunity for her son: either come help with the shop or endure a maternal visit at school. Unfortunately for poor Shunsuke, successfully sending the contrite Natsumi off his trail ignites the misadventure of being very ill-suited for being a shop assistant in his mother's lingerie shop much to the mutual frustration of all parties involved. Natsumi ultimately becomes the deus ex machina when she takes over for Shunsuke promising to bring more commerce with her in the future and then again when Shunsuke loses track of the three kilo-yen meant to pay for the dinner during the home commute; the ensuing stalemate demonstrates Shunsuke's perspective of what it means to be a man as the sexist and chauvinistic anachronism it really is.
