  • In the January 2165, the Velelev visited a Ware trading post. The passenger Nimthu, a ground-dweller unused to travelling in space, was captured by the Ware and installed as processor. The crew of Velelev was presented with a replicated body to make them belief Nimthu died. Her body was returned to TeMenaik to be consecrated to the Core of Creation. On February 23, the Velelev was docked at the trading post. Captain Rethne performed the first contact with the USS Pioneer, a United Federation of Planets starship. Captain Malcolm Reed and Rethne exchanged information about the Ware, and the Federation crew offered to attempt a rescue operation. Rethne's crew, which included no fighters, was grateful but would not participate. The Federation Starfleet landing party retrieved Nimthu and another Ware victim at the cost of one their own officers. Because the Velelev's medical facilities and database were limited, Nimthu was transported to Pioneer, where she spent the next four days recuperating from her ordeal.
