Players learn more about the origins of some of its founding members like Jack Morrison, Gabriel Reyes, Ana Amari, Torbjörn Lindholm, and Reinhardt Wilhelm, years before the events of the game, when the Omnic Crisis started. The comic was planned to be released on November, 2016 for the digital edition, and April, 2017 for physical hard cover edition. On 18 November, 2016, Lead Writer Michael Chu released a statement on Overwatch forum about the cancellation of the comic. The reason is because "[the team has] decided to take the [Overwatch's] story in a different direction." He also stated that they still plan to tell this story in another form.
