Steven Allan Spielberg (born December 18, 1946) is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative for California from 1977-1987, and as Senator for California from 1987-2011, retiring after four terms. A reliably liberal Democrat, Spielberg was part of the "New Majority" freshman class that swept to power in the Democratic landslide year of 1986, including future Presidents Jay Leno and Bruce Springsteen. Spielberg ran unsuccessfully for President in the 2000 and 2012 Democratic primaries and was rumored to be considering a run for Governor of California in both 1994 and 2002, although he never entered consideration. Spielberg is widely expected to challenge incumbent Governor of California Bob Daniels, a Nationalist, in 2014.
