Saliotite is a colorless to pearl white phyllosilicate mineral in the smectite group. Saliotite was discovered in 1994 at Andalusia, Spain and named after Pierre Saliot, a French geologist. It has the chemical formula Na0.5Li0.5Al3AlSi3O10(OH)5, has perfect cleavage, a pearly luster and leaves a white streak. Its crystal structure is monoclinic and it is a soft mineral with a hardness rated 2-3 on the Mohs Scale.
