Fei Yen is the young Avatar from the Fire Nation. Born fifty years after the death of the previous Avatar, earthbender Avanish, who gave his life to secure an uneasy peace between the United Earth Republic and the allied nations of Fire, Air and Water. Fei has known of her status as the Avatar since early childhood when she found she could easily bend earth as well as fire. Since then she has tried to run away from her destiny, desiring instead to lead a simple life rather than take her place as the Avatar. Try as she might, however, she could never escape Zhang's watchful eye and was, for the most part, confined to the Fire temple.

That all changed when the United Earth Republic, the reformed government that now spans what is left of the Earth Kingdom, attacked the Fire Nation breaking a fifty year truce. Now Fei Yen finds herself embroiled in a global war between the powerful Earth Republic and the beleaguered nations of Fire, Water and Air. Hunted by earthbenders and mercenaries alike Fei must now travel to the four nations and master each element. Only then can she truly fulfill her destiny as the Avatar and bring balance to the world thereby saving her home from annihilation.
