The 3½-ton International 74, when it was introduced in mid-1927, replaced the 63 and used the same 284 ci overhead-valve 4-cylinder gasoline engine and 4-speed transmission. The 74 used shaft drive to a double-reduction rear axle. The 74C was the same basic truck but with chain drive and a 2-speed "jackshaft", the axle that drove the drive sprockets. The 74C came standard with solid-rubber tires, 36"x6" front and 40"x12" rear, with 38x7 dual rear pneumatic tires optional. In 1929 the 74C was replaced by the HS74C, the same basic truck with a Hall-Scott 390 ci 4-cylinder overhead-cam engine.
