Al Nedjari appeared on Coronation Street from August 1994 to June 1995 as Samir Rachid, the third husband of Deirdre Hunt. The part of Samir was his first role after leaving drama school and he took it with some reluctance, wanting to work in the theatre. Although he has spoken warmly of Anne Kirkbride, William Roache and Dawn Acton, he found some of the other cast members to be remote and impersonal, although he has also stated that by the end of his year on the programme, he better understood their attitudes and the pressures of their jobs. Prior to his drama training, he studied aerospace vehicle design at university and for a time was a secondary school teacher.

Since leaving the Street, he has concentrated almost exclusively on theatre work. He is was a founder member and co-Artistic Director of the physical theatre company, Gecko, with which he has co-created Taylor's Dummies and The Arab and The Jew. He appeared on stage in Nation at the National Theatre and also The Sacred Flame, Crow, The Flint Street Nativity, The Race, Slave: A Question of Freedom and Messiah: Scenes from a Midsummer Night's Dream. A movement artist, he performed the puppetry on the West End run of War Horse and was associate director of the BBC War Horse Prom. Recently he was a movement artist on the acclaimed film Gravity and on screen has also appeared in Franz Fanon: Black Skin White Mask and Strong Language.
