PanAsianism, also known as Asianism, is one of the dominant ideological currents in recent world history. Initially promoted by Japan and various Asian political leaders, it emerged as a counter theme to the traditional Western dictates. The central theme of PanAsianism emphasizes Asian solidarity in order to achieve Asian independence and prosperity. While it experienced its height from the 1930s to 1950s, it remains strong today and is the underlying ideology for the Asian Economic Community and Asian Pacific Defense Organization.
