John William David Hamilton III (February 4, 1906 - May 13, 1983) was an English author, playwright, and naturalist best known for writing the Martin Jones literary series about the English Anarchy and for his essays on the native wildlife of Northern England. A prolific author, he wrote thirty-four books and eighty-two short stories in a forty-five year writing career in which he lived on four continents and travelled to almost every country in the world. He is often compared to his contemporary, Ian Fleming, or to Anglo-American author Cary Grant, who wrote a spy series similar in length and power to the Jones novels.
