  • She also starred in Law'n'Dorder UK with former Doctor David Peterson. In it, she's a cutie prosecutor with a Tardis on her desk because she's a Wo-Manchild. Before that, she played... ugh... it was a hard name to spell, but she was a chick who worked at Torchwood 1, and she got her brain eaten by Cyberworms, and the Doctor brutally murdered her in front of the entire staff, and that was Martha's cousin, and that's pretty fucked up, mostly cuz RTD implies all black people look the same. Real talk, I always figured that's what Mr. Saxon's assistant told her mother, "He murdered your niece". Because it's true, you know. And it's almost certainly on video.
  • Freema Agyeman was born in 1979 in London of Iranian-Ghanaian parentage. She made an appearance in the Crossroads Revival in 2003 (as one of the hotel staff) and like many a British actor, has been in The Bill (in her case, three times as two different characters). When she was young, she was a Star Trek Nerd thus making her One of Us. Also a star of Law and Order UK, alongside co-Sci Fi Actor Jamie Bamber. And former Doctor Peter Davison. Will play Larissa, mentor to the young Carrie Bradshaw (Anna Sophia Robb), in the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries.

  • Freema Agyeman first appeared on Doctor Who in the Series 2 episode Army of Ghosts as Adeola Oshodi, a Torchwood Institute employee, who was an early victim of the Cybermen. She returned to the series as Adeola's cousin, Martha Jones, at the start of Series 3 in Smith and Jones. Agyeman continued as Martha throughout the rest of Series 3, and also provided the character's voice for the special animated serial, The Infinite Quest. She left the series with the finale episode, Last of the Time Lords. As a consequence of her time on the series, she also gained the record for most guest appearances on Totally Doctor Who, entirely discounting her turn on The Infinite Quest — although David Tennant holds the record, including Quest.

Recently received international attention for pegging Lana Wachowski.
  • Freema Agyeman was born in 1979 in London of Iranian-Ghanaian parentage. She made an appearance in the Crossroads Revival in 2003 (as one of the hotel staff) and like many a British actor, has been in The Bill (in her case, three times as two different characters). However, her most famous role at the moment is in Doctor Who and later in spin-off show Torchwood. Performing a You Look Familiar, she played Adeola Odoshi in "Army of Ghosts", where she ended up put out of her misery by the Doctor. Three episodes later, in "Smith and Jones", she made her first appearance as med student Martha Jones (a character described inaccurately as "the first black companion", a title that actually goes to Mickey Smith in the TV show -- she was just the first to get billing in the opening credits). The character's similarity to Adeola was later Handwaved by saying that she was Martha's cousin. Is not "African American", nor are any of the characters she's played. She has played black Brits though -- such as Alesha Phillips.

Agyeman wasn't away from the Doctor Who franchise for long. She next reprised the role of Martha in several episodes of Series 2 of Torchwood, and was the third character to cross over between the two shows. Only a couple of months after her Torchwood appearances, she was back on the parent program for five episodes of Series 4, reprising Jones for a trilogy of episodes beginning with The Sontaran Stratagem, and returning once more for the finale, The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. After completing work on Doctor Who, Agyeman returned to the Torchwood team to portray Martha for an original BBC Radio audio drama based upon the spin-off, Lost Souls. 2008 was a breakout year for the actress. Besides her multiple appearances on Doctor Who and Torchwood (as well as hosting the July 2008 BBC Proms concert dedicated to Doctor Who), it was also announced that she would be starring in a remake of the 1970s Terry Nation series, Survivors, and in July 2008 it was announced that she would star in Law & Order: UK, an ITV spin-off of the American Law & Order franchise. Although rumours persisted that she would appear in the third series of Torchwood, she did not due to her commitment to Law & Order: UK.[1] At the beginning of the series however, it was stated that her character of Martha Jones was on her honeymoon at the time. Law & Order: UK was later renewed for a second series. In 2009, Agyeman returned briefly to the role of Martha for a cameo appearance near the end of David Tennant's final story, The End of Time. More recently she has also appeared in Old Jack's Boat with Bernard Cribbins, and the American series The Carrie Diaries.
