He wasn't too shabby at Old Bridge later in the year, either, finishing 12th. Walker's best year, though, was in 1957, when he finished 54th in points. This was largely explained by finishing no worse than 18th, and even then the 18th was a result of an engine failure at Watkins Glen. Walker was solid in his other two races that year, finishing 10th at Raleigh and then a career-best 3rd place finish at Syracuse following a career-best 7th place start. Walker's final career race came in the 1958, when he competed at Gastonia. Starting last (19th) in the field, Walker found his start to hurt his chances early, falling some forty laps down and struggling to a 14th place finish.
