The Blackfaulds estate in Garthamlock, north-east Glasgow was the first private housing estate to be built in the city. It was completed in 1985 and was a joint venture between the Glasgow City Council and Central Building Contractors. The estate was built where unsuccessful tenements had become illetable. Housing is made up of semi, detached and terraced red brick houses that put Garthamlock's dire remaining tenement stock to shame in terms of quality.
