King Nectanebo was the last native king of Egypt and whose body was interred in a sarcophagus at the site of Attarine Mosque in Alexandria. His sarcophagus was discovered by the French during the Napoleonic occupation of Egypt and mistakenly believed to belong to Alexander the Great until archaeologists in Great Britain realized their error. On December 2, 1933, an unknown archaeologist acting on behalf of the Smithsonian Institution noted the mistake in a journal while traveling through Alexandria in search of Alexander's armor.
