Not long after becoming Deputy Leader, Wingo was named to the Cabinet as Minister of Environment and Tourism. Following Sharpe's death in 3355, Wingo, as Deputy Leader, automatically became interim Leader of the Liberal Party. However, Rutanian President Katy Monn needed to appoint a new Prime Minister. While initial speculation led many to believe that Léon Ajzenstat or Silvia Cronulla Menzies would receive the position, Wingo was ultimately nominated for the post. In a memorable speech to Parliament, Wingo asked her colleagues for their support during this difficult period in Rutanian history. She was ultimately confirmed as Prime Minister by a vote of 468 to 131. She took office on August 1, 3356. An elder statesman of sorts, Wingo did not surprise many when she announced that she would be stepping down as leader before the next election. She did, however, opt to remain Prime Minister until a new government could be formed. In addition to serving as Prime Minister, Wingo remained in the Environment and Tourism ministry.
