The Genealogical Office of the Greater German Reich was charged with examining the genealogical records of all citizens of the Reich and identifying Untermenschen in an effort to preserve the Aryan purity of the Volk. One such officer, Maximilian Ebert, investigated a discrepancy in the genealogical chart of the terminally ill infant Paul Klein.
