  • Tropical Storm Alberto originated from an area of low pressure about 100 miles southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The system was forecasted ahead of time by multiple computer models. On the morning of May 19, the system quickly developed, and after organizing enough, the low pressure system was classified as Tropical Storm Alberto. Alberto became a moderate tropical storm before weakening. After wandering southwest and then northeast, Alberto became a tropical depression in the evening hours of May 21.
  • The 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season was extremely active, with almost every single storm becoming hurricanes. 2012 was the second-most active hurricane season ever recorded and the first to last 2 years. Hurricane Zeta was the strongest and latest major hurricane ever recorded, reaching the status on January 1, while Hurricane Allen was the earliest Category 5 on record, reaching the status on January 12th. Hurricane Jake (known as Hypercane Jake) was the strongest cyclone on Earth with winds of 330 mph and a pressure of 815 mbars. Hurricane Tammy is the strongest November storm ever recorded and only Category 5 in November. The super-catastrophic season finally ended in 2013. There were 46 storms.
  • The 2012 Atlantic hurricane season is the period in 2012 during which tropical cyclones will form in the Atlantic Ocean. The season officially started on June 1 and ended on November 30, dates which conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical systems form in the basin. The 2012 season had a record 6 Category 5 hurricanes, with three having pressures below 900 millibars (Ernesto also had a pressure below 900 mbars, but reached this intensity while in the Western Pacific).
