abstract
  • The Sergeant was in charge of police proceedings when several emergency personnel were deployed to Coronation Street in March 2005 following the discovery of Tommy Harris's body inside Websters' Auto Centre. Proprietor Kevin Webster and mechanic Tyrone Dobbs made the gruesome discovery upon opening up the premises and after calling 999, Kevin promptly went to neighbouring business Underworld to inform Danny Baldwin and together they "broke the news" to Tommy's wife Angela. In reality the couple's daughter Katy had committed the heinous crime by hitting her father over the head with a wrench after she found out that he'd concocted a story about her boyfriend Martin Platt having an affair to force her into terminating her pregnancy, and she'd already confessed to her mother but the panicked pair put on a grief-stricken facade to mask their guilt and initially avoided arousing any suspicion. The Sergeant methodically oversaw the premises being cordoned off as a crime scene, arranged for the family's oblivious son Craig to be escorted back from Weatherfield High and quickly put a Family Liaison Officer in place at No.6 to assist the family during their difficult time. In April 2008, the Sergeant collected David Platt from the cells at Weatherfield Police Station after he was detained overnight following his rampage on the Street. David was escorted to the front desk where he was read out a list of charges which included several counts of criminal damage and the assault of an on-scene police officer. The Sergeant was on duty in September of the same year when Becky Granger came to the station's front desk following the detention of Roy Cropper and Ken Barlow. Having both been mistakenly arrested on the suspicion of supplying drugs, the Sergeant advised her that he would notify the officer in charge of the case and, as Becky was able to verify both Roy and Ken's account of events, they were subsequently released without charge.
