  • This version of Oroku Karai is one of the members of the modern-day Foot Clan in the IDW comics. She is the daughter of Oroku Yori and a direct descendant of Oroku Saki (the Shredder) about three hundred years after his supposed death in feudal Japan; she is responsible for rebuilding the Foot Clan in modern times and resurrecting The Shredder. Her backstory is told in Villian Mini-series #5: Originally, the daughter of a weak-willed businessman, Oroku Yori, who had long since turned his back on the old warrior tradition of the clan, as a young girl, Karai found the Ashi no Himitsu, a book detailing the secret history of the Foot Clan, in Oroku Yori's, her father's, library. From there, she began to learn about the history of her ancestors in the Foot Clan. She also used the detailed martial arts instructions to train in the Foot's unique style of Ninjutsu. As a teenager, she one night had a dream where Oroku Saki appeared; guiding her to rebuild the Foot Clan and assist in his resurrection. Training and recruiting new ninja, Karai reverted the Foot from a business enterprise to a clan of ninja warriors and eventually took over the leadership of the Clan after her father by her wiles had found an early death. After the spirit of the Shredder came into contact with her, it was Karai, who revived her ancestor with her blood in the modern era. Following Saki's resurrection, she remained as Chunin (second-in-command) of the Foot. Despite her unconditional loyalty to her ancestor (whom she calls her "grandfather") and the Clan, the Shredder seemed not to hold very much of her abilities as a leader, and thus as his successor, instead convinced Leonardo to join him, for his own purposes, displacing Karai. Karai, in her jealousy, begins to secretly recruit for the Foot, including the creation of Bebop and Rocksteady to earn Saki's trust. This turned out to be a test to test Karai's true loyalty to the Clan and thus her true worthiness to lead. After the Turtles recover Leonardo, Shredder praises her for her actions and loyalty and reinstates her as Chunin. Later, Shredder sends her to steal more resources from Krang and uses that to create Koya and Bludgeon, a mutant hawk and hammerhead shark.
