Weeks after the fall of the Republic, Iscarrd Veston returned to public life from a self-imposed isolation that began after the Umanian War for Independence. Based upon birth records, (which he most likely forged) Veston argued that he was the true king of Uman Rai in direct opposition to the current holder of the throne, Uldrarian XVI. Despite accusations by the king's supporters that the documents were faked, Veston was still wildly popular with the people. They remembered him as the man who liberated Uman Rai from the Trade Federation years before. Uldrarian was deposed weeks later and Veston was crowned Emperor Iscarrd I, leader of the newly cristened Umanian Empire. After his coronation many Umanian nations surrendered to the Empire and were made into imperial provinces.

There were, however, still a few states that opposed Veston and his new empire. Among these were the Kingdom of the Royale and their allies, the Etruskans, and the Principality of Algiers. After a bloody two-year civil war the final pockets of resistance had been crushed and Veston's dream of a united Uman Rai became a reality, but his ambitions would not allow him to stop there.
