King of Men was a title originally claimed by Sauron in the Second Age and later by Ar-Pharazôn (Tar-Calion), the King of Númenor. Due to his nearly undisputed rule over most all of the Men in Middle-earth, Sauron claimed the title of King of Men inspiring his subjects to worship him and cultivating much fear amongst them. Later, Ar-Pharazôn proud and determined to lord over all mankind sailed to Middle-earth in a great fleet with a great army and defeated Sauron's armies humbling him and taking him back to Númenor as prisoner. Afterwards, Ar-Pharazôn secured the title until he himself fell.
