There is a movement called "raw foodism" which promotes the consumption of raw food as a large percentage of the diet. Raw foodists believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Adherents of it believe that it encourages weight loss and prevents and/or heals many forms of sickness and chronic diseases. They may also believe that cooked food is harmful and that cooking foods destroys almost all healthy enzymes, a large part of vitamins and nutrients, half of the protein content of the food, and causes fats to become rancid

| - There is a movement called "raw foodism" which promotes the consumption of raw food as a large percentage of the diet. Raw foodists believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Adherents of it believe that it encourages weight loss and prevents and/or heals many forms of sickness and chronic diseases. They may also believe that cooked food is harmful and that cooking foods destroys almost all healthy enzymes, a large part of vitamins and nutrients, half of the protein content of the food, and causes fats to become rancid Although many raw foodists are also vegan, others eat raw meat. This comes with dangers of poisoning. Some medical studies have indicated that different forms of raw food diets may lead to various health problems, while other studies have shown positive health outcomes with such diets. Scientific literature on this is limited so far. Detrimental health effects found in raw food diets:
* lower bone density
* amenorrhea and underweightness in women
* increased risk of dental erosion
* elevated plasma homocysteine
* low serum HDL cholesterol
* vitamin B-12 deficiency Positive effects found in scientific studies:
* favorable serum LDL cholesterol and triglycerides
* favourable plasma beta-carotene concentrations
* low plasma lycopene concentrations
* lowers obesity
* lowers hypertension
* reduced fibromyalgia symptoms
* reduced symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
* reducing breast cancer risk
