The RG517 features a basswood body with special flaked finishes in blue and green. The neck is one-piece maple with a bubinga "skunk stripe" with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. It has Ibanez V7 and V8 humbucking pickups flanking an Ibanez S1 single-coil controlled by a 5-way selector switch. Other components include an Edge double locking tremolo bridge and a locking nut. The RG570 is identical with the same flaked finishes was offered in the USA for 1997. The RG517 had a production run of two years.
