On the contrary, the Galactic Republic sometimes used non-clones of various races, human and non-human alike, as mercenaries from private companies hired by the Republic government or as draftees actually conscripted into the Grand Army. On the contrary, the Galactic Republic sometimes used non-clones of various races, human and non-human alike, as mercenaries from private companies hired by the Republic government or as draftees actually conscripted into the Grand Army. A Grand Army corp, division, or battalion was often actually composed of both all-clone units and non-clone units with a Jedi general or commander and a clone commander being second-in-command. These non-clones were officially called Auxiliary Forces. The first Auxiliary Forces in the GAR were actually composed of troops from the Republic's pre-Clone Wars Judicial Forces (themselves a result of the Ruusan Reformations in 1000 BBY). The Ailon Nova Guard generally served on the side of the Republic during the Clone Wars, as many Ailon soldiers as professional mercenaries enthusiastically volunteered for the Grand Army's Auxiliary Forces. This was mainly due to the tradition of the Ailon race and the Nova Guard supporting the Republic since their home planet joined the Republic back in 13,000 BBY. The Ailon were the single largest source of Auxiliary Forces volunteer recruits. On the warships of the Republic Navy, both clones and non-clone Auxiliary Forces served as both crew, starfighter pilots, and on-board marines. A deal with various Hutt clans, particularly that led by Jabba, allowed the Republic to draft Klatooinians, Vadron, and Nikto into the Republic military as Auxiliary Forces conscripts. This deal represented the Republic's largest source of military draftees, though conscription of mostly humans and Duros in the Core Worlds like Coruscant and Corellia and planets of the Colonies region was the second-largest source of Republic Auxiliary Forces draftees.
