Deftones are an American rock band from Sacramento, California. The band, which was founded in 1988, consists of Chino Moreno (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Stephen Carpenter (lead guitar), Frank Delgado (keyboards and turntables), Abe Cunningham (drums and percussion) and Sergio Vega (bass). The group's original bassist was Chi Cheng, whose career with the band ended when he was left comatose from a 2008 car accident, which ultimately led to his death in 2013. Deftones have released seven albums, with three platinum (Adrenaline, Around the Fur, White Pony) and one gold certification (for Deftones).

Serj Tankian contributed additional vocals to the band's single "Mein" from their album Saturday Night Wrist. In 2009, Daron, Shavo and John joined Moreno onstage to play covers of "Aerials" and "Toxicity", at a benefit gig for late Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who had been involved in a car accident and was in a coma.
