Loustel's NHL career consisted of one disastrous start in 1980-81 when he was left helpless and allowed ten goals. That year he also played half a game for the CHL's Tulsa Oilers but spent the bulk of the year in junior. He retired in 1983 after struggling with a 7.08 goals against average with the junior Brandon Wheat Kings and playing 33 minutes of a game for the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League.
