Aggie Grimshaw and her family were the first tenants of 1 Coronation Street. Aggie married into a family of pit workers and her husband Percy and son Daniel both worked at Weatherfield Main Colliery. As a girl, Aggie was kept out of schooling by her mother and along with her brothers and sisters was sent out onto the streets to scavenge for food. She spent seven years in an institution when she was caught stealing applies from a shop. At No.1, she spent her days sewing. Tragedy hit in 1906 when Percy died from tuberculosis and Daniel was killed in a mine collapse. Aggie was thrown out as she couldn't pay the rent, and survived just a week at the workhouse on Baker Street. She had lived at No.1 since 1902.
