The topic of handling real world people and IU characters that share professions came up about a year ago, but faded away. Our current system is rather wonky (Category:Actors and Category:Actors (In-Universe)). There was talk of a relatively simple solution of sorting, for example actors, into "Category:Actors" for IU actors and "Category:Star Wars actors" for real world actors. Thoughts? --SparqMan 15:10, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

The "Actors" category was for real actors-- you know, ones who actually exist-- whereas "Actors (In-Universe)" was for ficticious characters who were portrayed as actors in the stories they appeared in. I thought it was pretty cut-and-dry. If it gets changed, then will the same need to be done for authors and artists? I guess what we should be asking is this: if a new user looks up everything under the category of "Authors", who are they most likely looking for, Timothy Zahn or Muftak? -- SM-716 ...talk? 03:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC) * It was clear, but why not make it even clearer? "Star Wars authors" seems to do the trick quite nicely. In addition, this fits in-line with the "in universe" perspective of Wookieepedia and eliminates the awkward tagging of a few categories as "In Universe". --SparqMan 03:46, 6 May 2006 (UTC) * There are also and . - Sikon [Talk] 08:12, 6 May 2006 (UTC) * It actually seems less clear to me now. I'm really not sure what I'm getting with a category named "Star Wars Actors". Does that mean actors in the Star Wars universe, or actors who have portrayed characters in the Star Wars franchise? The category would need to be named "Actors (out of universe)" or "Real-World Actors" to be clearly understandable. But I still think the old system was more user-intuitive. When I say "actor", do you think of Mark Hamill or Adalric Brandl? -- SM-716 ...talk? 23:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC) * Keep in mind that no in-universe categories include the words "Star Wars". - Sikon [Talk] 02:43, 7 May 2006 (UTC) * Well, given that the rest of the site is clearly presented with an in-universe perspective, I would surmise that "Star Wars actor" means that he's an actor in a piece of Star Wars media, and that "Actor" means he's a character that is an actor by trade. --SparqMan 06:11, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
