Mavis Wilton was brought up in the town but moved to Weatherfield in 1971 to work at the Mark Brittain Warehouse. She returned briefly back in 1974 when she couldn’t get a commitment from boyfriend Jerry Booth but she returned after three months. In July 1980 Alf and Renee Roberts made plans to sell up the Corner Shop and move to the town and run a sub post-office. An offer to purchase the shop was made by George Bannister and his wife but before contracts could be exchanged Renee was tragically killed in a car crash. Alf cancelled the sale of the shop and remained in his home town.
