The Marstill system was a binary star system, a red giant and a yellow main-sequence star. There were no planets in the Marstill system. It was located approximately halfway between Yavin and Dantooine, just beyond the junction of the Syrdia Route and Hydian Way. Nearby star systems included Kalla Tora and G0-CV. Marstill itself had little value, lacking planets or asteroids for civilization. However, its location made it a good place to intercept ships en route from Yavin to Dantooine, as it lay near only safe path that involved less than five hyperspace jumps.

It was here that the Eternity, a Stellar Imperial Star Destroyer, pulled the Dantooine-bound Jedi ship, the Silent Runner out of hyperspace and attacked it, although the smaller ship was able to escape.
