- Phantoon is an enemy boss who appeared in the SNES Metroid title Super Metroid. It can be found in the level titled "wrecked ship", which the boss obtains power from. It resembles a ghost, and apparently is one. Its sole weakspot is its lone eye. Everything else on its body is invulnerable to Samus Aran's attacks. According to the game's official manual, Phantoon uses its powers to tap into Mother Brain's brain waves, which causes it to be an ally of the Space Pirates. Once the deadly boss is defeated, the Coverns, enemies who appeared on the ship, will stop appearing. It is unknown why.
- Phantoon is truly a monster, with a bloated head, tentacles, and a single eye inside a maw rimmed with razor sharp teeth. The eye is further protected by sharp spikes. The creature's primary attack is by generating what looks like tears made from blue fire. It becomes tangible when its eye opens, suddenly appearing with a roar and dropping a shower of burning tears from the ceiling. When this happens, Samus Aran must fire a missile or charge beam shot in the eye. Firing a Super Missile causes it to appear at the ceiling and throw off waves of fireballs. Defeating it restores power to the Wrecked Ship and causes all Coverns to disappear.

- Phantoon (ファントゥーン Fantūn) is an ethereal specter that is mostly intangible and thus invulnerable to any form of attack, except for its single eye. It is this eye that, when open, serves as its connection to the mortal world and can be damaged. Ranging in size from four meters tall to ten times as large as Samus' ship, Phantoon resembles a giant cephalopod with a single eye inside a large mouthlike eyelid.
