She wrote for Coronation Street forty-nine times between April 1993 and September 1997 during which time she created the character of Norris Cole who she based on her father. She returned to the programme in 2006 penning a further eleven episodes making 60 in total. She has also penned episodes of Brookside, Emmerdale, Peak Practice, The Bill, Family Affairs and rival soap, EastEnders.
