| - Technology can create jobs and enhance services for governmental uses and for the benefits of residents. Before Pittsburgh can rise and craft a vibrant tech network for itself, we need elected regional leaders and a mayor and administration that understands and emphasizes software and open source thinking. The old-school life in Pittsburgh has been with a bricks and mortar focus. Pittsburgh is more than just its buildings. Sadly, the buildings and not the programs, have been the only elements that get attention.
* Pittsburgh will host an annual Youth Technology Summit. Once I'm elected to office, I'll see to it. Even as a citizen, without the elected office status, I'll still work to make it happen as best I can.
* I will be sure to give Open source software a mighty push into a variety of sectors from education to public housing.
* My elected office will be a vibrant source for technology and we'd deploy a deliberate e-mayor approach to many of our services with citizens, in and beyond the district's borders.
* Wi-Fi for Philadelphia and not Pittsburgh? That can't continue to happen. Pittsburgh needs to be a leader, not a laggard in tech matters.
* Government employees and community volunteers should be encouraged to better utilize webcasts and internet learning opportunities for on-the-job training, continual education to stay up with best practices and state-of-the-art serives.
* I'll work in a tireless way to keep online speech free, as in free speech. As an example, see the EPA stormwater managers webcast.
* As a , I'll push to make heavy investments by state and U.S. government in the country's communications infrastructure. The communication network should be pushed harder in the future, much like a public utility and highways.
* The schools need to be wired and the students, teachers and parents need to be wired. When these groups are the ones to benefit, company investments can be made in the private sector.
* De-regulation of the telecommunications industry is not a sufficient incentive for the laying of fiber for a next-generation broadband.
* Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh region, needs leaders in government that understand the media, the internet and content networks. As a former publisher, educator, parent and advocate of open-source software, my insights and skills are going to benefit the citizens as well as the technology-related industry and commerce.
