Cal State Bakersfield has attempted to join the Big West Conference, but has been denied, most recently in late 2010 when the Big West was looking into adding new members and Hawaii was added. Seattle was considered for membership in the Western Athletic Conference in late 2010 but was turned down in favor of Denver, Texas State, and Texas - San Antonio. SIU-Edwardsville is a partial member of the Ohio Valley Conference that cannot yet participate in its tournament.
