Four years later, he was surprisingly defeated. He returned to Parliament in 3347. Shortly after he returned to Parliament, he was elected leader of the Liberal Party. Shortly after his election, Sharpe attempted to form a government. However, Claude Desmarais asked Katy Monn to dissolve Parliament and call for elections before he had the ability to take office as Prime Minister. In February 3349, Rutanians went to the polls. The Liberals gained seats and once again had plurality of seats in Parliament. He took office as Prime Minister shortly after. In 3353, the Liberals suffered massive losses but Sharpe was able to retain his position as Prime Minister. In July 3355, Sharpe was forced to call for elections. The Liberals unexpectedly made gains and Sharpe remained Prime Minister. Just months later, however, Sharpe suffered a massive heart attack shortly after jogging. While it is speculated that he would have survived his heart attack, his cause of death was the result of blunt trauma to the head after collapsing down the stairs in the Government House.
