Normally it would have a very limited range, but in underwater environments such as on Manaan the signal would be amplified. The weapon was designed to be attached to an envirosuit, and used when wildlife go too close. The Jedi Revan found one in the station and it proved to be a vital piece of equipment in order for him to reach the Star Map on the ocean floor. Sonic emitter were also used on the planet Taris, centuries later, to repel wildlife from supply routs.

- In Condemned: Criminal Origins, there are no Sonic Emitters visible, but many dead birds can be found around the city in various levels of decay. It is revealed early on in Condemned 2 that despite being attracted to sonic wavelengths, their small brains cannot handle them, causing their heads to explode. In Condemned 2: Bloodshot, the number of Sonic Emitters destroyed during the course of a level directly affects the rank given at the end of the level.
- Based on the Harmonic Resonance technology, this station carries a sonic cannon originally designed for the eradication of Tiberium, though thanks to its sheer power, it became employed as a brutal, but effective base defence weapon after discovering the Scrin's vulnerability to sonic waves. The sonic emitter is available to both GDI and ZOCOM, but Steel Talons commanders chose to rely on Guardian cannons for anti-vehicle defense.

The technology was first utilized in Disruptors during TW2. Between the end of the Firestorm Crisis and the beginning of the Third Tiberium War, it was used to dam the spread of and eventually dissolve Tiberium in Yellow Zones worldwide. Though re-tooled into a containment system rather than a purpose-built weapon, they soon became one of the most powerful base defenses in GDI's arsenal.
